A retro dialogue box you can drop onto any video

This makes the classic RPG text box, the kind that scrolls dialogue at the bottom of the screen in old handheld games. Type your line, and it lands inside a white box with the chunky black border, already positioned where a dialogue box sits on a 1920x1080 screen. Everything outside the box is transparent, so it drops straight onto your footage. Turn on animation and it exports a GIF where the text types itself in, one character at a time, with the little blinking arrow.

How to make a dialogue box overlay

  1. Type your text. Use line breaks where you want them; long lines wrap.
  2. Pick bottom or top, and toggle the blinking arrow.
  3. For a still image, hit Download PNG (transparent, 1920x1080).
  4. For the typing effect, turn on animation and hit Download animated GIF.

Frequently asked questions

Where does the box sit on my screen?

The PNG and GIF are 1920x1080 with the box at the bottom-center (or top), so it lines up with 1080p footage without repositioning.

Can I animate the text typing in?

Yes. Turn on animation and download an animated transparent GIF of the text typing in.

Is this from a specific game?

No. It's a generic retro-style text box, not from or affiliated with any specific game or company. It uses a generic pixel font and is for personal creative use only.
